What an aerator pump actually does
A conventional septic tank works anaerobically, meaning without oxygen. Bacteria break down waste slowly, producing a partially treated liquid (effluent) that flows to the drain field. An aerobic treatment unit takes a different approach: it pumps air continuously into the sewage, which allows oxygen-dependent bacteria to get to work.
